Posted by admin On June - 1 - 2011 1 Comment

There are people who prefer wood for their furniture at home. It extends even to their backyard, as they prefer wood for their patio chairs. You cannot question the quality and durability of a wooden patio chair, but expect it to be more expensive that your usual outdoor chairs. Teak is a popular choice. It is hardwood with very resilient properties because they have minimal water retention, which means they don’t swell nor shrink. It is also the type of wood that can withstand any weather, which means you can leave them outdoors in any season without having to worry about damaging the quality of the furniture. All that rain, snow or heat will not mean a thing if you choose this kind of hardwood for your patio décor.

Here are some styles of wooden patio chairs for you to choose from:
1. Folding armchair
Because they fold easily, these chairs require next to no room for storage and are easy to transport to a cottage or campground. Adding a splash of color with an outdoor throw pillow can pull together the look of your outdoor area.

2. Rocker
These wood patio chairs are the same as their indoor counterparts, with a water resistance stain that makes them a perfect addition to your outdoor space.

3. Lounger
These chairs are perfect for sunbathing. With an adjustable back you can lay out flat, or lounge around reading a book.

4. Adirondack
No outdoor area is complete without an Adirondack chair. These classic wood patio chairs are built low to the ground for maximum comfort. Once size fits all, since you can adjust the slope of the back by moving the arms of the chair.

As a rule, patio furniture must be made of stronger and durable material since they are most exposed to extreme conditions of temperature – heat, rain, cold, snow. It can be costly to replace patio furniture, so it would be wiser to invest on patio furniture covers. Like Golf cart covers and Rv covers, they protect what you want to last long.

. It preserves your furniture from spills and stains.
. It safeguards your furniture from extreme changes in weather.
. It can be attractive enough to be used everday.

There are different types of covers to choose from. Before buying, we need to make sure we choose the right cover for our outdoor patio furniture. There are several things to be considered like the following:

1. Material – Decide whether it needs to be hard or soft, made of grade vinyl, waterproof and UV treated, thick or thin.
2. Secure Strap System – We need to make sure the covers stay in place.
3. The covers come with warranty.
4. The type of weather your patio furniture will more often be exposed to. If you’re in a rainy part of the country, you’ll want to get covers that are of thick plastic or waterproof canvas. It if gets humid in the off-season, consider patio furniture covers that can breathe a bit so that your furniture doesn’t become moldy.

Elegant Porches

One of my dreams, along with discovering a very effective hair loss treatment, is having a patio at home. I want it screened because I am paranoid about mosquitoes and bugs, but I love the idea of being able to be outside nature but still inside your house.

Look at these elegant porches:

Erin Paige Pitts used a pair of upholstered porch swings in her pool room for this year’s DC Design House. The swings lend the airy room a laid back vibe that makes it feel more like an outdoor retreat than the indoor room that it is.

The expansive sleeping porch in Coastal Living‘s 2009 Seawatch Idea House used a plush hanging bed in the middle of the room. The swing acts as both breezy lounge spot and extra sleep space.

What makes an Atelier garden office different?

Their garden office studio is differently made to connect its owner to the environment that is different from a log cabin or a summer house.

Their garden office studio offers wall windows to enhance as much natural light to enter without giving the occupants away. They maintain privacy by offering as high level glazing to its structures.

Their defining design principle is the curve. An Atelier garden office studio has curves which is both sleek and functional at the same time. As you can see from the pictures below, Atelier garden offices are attractive in any angle.

Their garden office is the great fusion of modularity and customization. You can have both if you have yours built through Atelier.

An Atelier garden office is made of naturally sustainable materials making them eco-friendly contemporary buildings. And yet it can house the most state-of-the art equipment you need to make working in it as comfortable as possible – under floor heating, running water, electricity generating solar panels and broadband.

Why should you consider investing on a garden office?

Working from home can be challenging. It is hard to stay focused when you hear the constant noise of television or get called a lot by your children. Striking a balance between work and play when all you have for an environment is a home is hard. This is why having an office at your home, apart yet still a part of home will give you and your children lines and boundaries. It gives you the schedule you need and makes you feel like you are working – privacy and focus will be easier to achieve. It will also give your kids the signal that you would need to work and they should not disturb you. Yet it is close enough for you to go home , rest and check up on the family if needed.

And you do not have to just confine it as being an office. It can be as versatile as you want it to be. It gives you extra living space. From gyms to art rooms, playrooms to excellent guest accommodation, this multipurpose space is adaptable and flexible over time.

They even add immense value to your property. Yet they are more cost-effective than an home extension because it can be built without having to reconstruct or renovate any part of the main house.

Buying Tents for the Family

Lat week, my kids wanted to try “camping” outdoors right in the comfort of our backyard and asked me if we can buy a tent. At that time I thought it wasn’t a good idea, not to mention I thought tents were expensive!

big agnes tents

I was wrong. Big Agnes tents are durable, made of quality materials and are priced competitively. It can really be a good investment. The downside of this is that I wasn’t able to give my kids the chance to enjoy camping and sleeping on a tent!

So I did my research and I found out the following recommended sizing on tents:
4 people- 64 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 8 feet.
6 people- 96 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 12 feet.
8 people- 128 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 16 feet.

I also just need a three-season tent, which can stand a bit of snowfall and rain but can be breezy enough for spring and summer!

Enjoying Outdoors

backyard camping

When spring arrives it means one things – gorgeous weather, not too hot or too cold. It is a perfect time to go hiking or camping with family friends or hold BBQ parties in your backyard.

You can still enjoy outdoors without having to go to the mountains. If you have a yard, you can pitch in a tent for the kids, have some backyard furniture like chairs and tables surrounding fire pits and roast hotdogs and marshmallows with the kids at night. You can sleep in the tent too!

A big plus? You get to enjoy the comfort of your house (the kitchen and the bathroom most especially) when camping “out”, and it won’t cost as much!

Decorating your Patio with Wicker Furniture

One of the things that can beautify the entrance of your home is the carefully chosen pieces of outdoor patio furniture you will decorate it with. Remember that not only should it be beautiful, it also needs to be sturdy, can stand the harshness of changing weather conditions and still be affordable. When you are thinking about choosing furniture for your patio, there are many different options to consider. It may seem overwhelming as there are so many different types and styles. But if you consider what will fit your lifestyle, climate and family, the choice will be narrowed down significantly. Also keep in mind that quality often comes with a hefty price tag, consider it as an investment if you have found one.

What are the pieces of furniture you can decorate your patio with?

The garden bench is a popular choice and works well around your patio area and just about anywhere in your yard. Garden benches come in different styles and materials but wood benches are some of the most popular. Teak wood garden benches have an appealing look too! A bench with storage for patio items may be a good choice as well.

One of the most favored outdoor furniture are those made of wicker. Wicker is commonly used to make furniture due to its lightweight nature, strength, and flexibility. When this material is properly treated, the furniture can resist even the harshest weather conditions. There is a huge line of outdoor wicker patio furniture from wicker bistro tables to wicker daybeds, wicker dining sets, wicker sofa sets at Outdora.com. These types of furniture are not only suitable for an outdoor patio but for other outdoor areas like gardens, pool sides or backyards.

Here are some considerations when you decide on buying wicker furniture:
If it will be kept outside and a painted style is desired, be aware that the sun may cause the paint to blister or peel. It is wise to bring this furniture inside during the rainy and snowy seasons to avoid mildewing.

If an all-weather variety is desired, look for resin or vinyl wickers because these are more durable and age more slowly. Regardless of the material, look for caning that is tightly woven and make sure that there are no gaps or splinters. The bottoms of the legs should have casters or taps that protect the surface.

Comfort is a big factor, so sit in the chairs to make sure they are comfortable. Keep in mind that after buying wicker furniture, cushions and accent pillows can be purchased to make the seating more cushioned.
