Maintain and Expand Your Home to Increase Its Resale Value
A great way to invest your money is to maintain and improve your house. Now only will you enjoy living in a home that’s kept up, but you’re also more likely to make money when you decide to sell your house. Here are some tips for turning your house into a home and a profitable investment that will pay off in the future.
Fix Problems as They Arise
There are some emergencies such as a leaky roof, a busted water heater, and a broken window that need immediate attention. Even if you don’t have the cash on hand, installment loans from Great Plains Lending can help you get these repairs done in a timely manner.
Do Your Research
When you are contemplating adding a new feature to your home such as a deck, patio, or sun room, take the time to read articles, blogs, and product information. You’ll also want to look at photos of completed projects to get a feel for what style you prefer, and when it’s time to select a company to do the work, request references.
Think About Outside Space
Increasingly, buyers are interested in homes with attractive outdoor spaces, especially if they appear to extend the living area into the back yard. Outdoor kitchens, water features, rain gardens, fish ponds, and walking paths are just some of the features that can add value to your home. The costs of these projects vary greatly, so you can find one to fit almost any budget.

Create Additional Living Space
Professional architects and builders can assist you in developing plans to truly transform your home and increase the living space. From adding another story to finishing a basement to converting a screened in porch to a sunroom, you can expand your square footage in a number of ways.
Install new Appliances and Hardware
It may not sound as glamorous as adding a room to your home, but upgrading your appliances, door knobs, and fixtures can have a big impact on the look of your home. Stainless steel is a popular choice for stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and other kitchen equipment. If you install new sinks, think about a bowl style basin that sits on top of the counter. As for counters, consider the look and utility of granite counter tops in the kitchen.

Key Factors to Consider in Home Renovation
When we had our house built 4 years ago, we made sure that the Architect will follow the design that we like. We were thinking, this will be the only time that we have our house built so might as well make the most out of it. But the thing is, we didn’t have enough budget for the entire construction so we settled on having the basics.
Then after two years, we decided to have our house renovated. We thought that it would be easier this time around, but we were wrong. Having a house renovation was actually more difficult than having our house built. Why? Because we were already living in the house. All our stuff are already settled. The hassle of moving our stuff has caused us was the hard part. So better think twice if you plan on having your house renovated. And better consider the following factors first:
- Scope of the Renovation. Before deciding to go with the renovation, make sure that you know the scope. How big the renovation will be. Up to what extent are you willing to do? If you know this, the next two factors will follow
- Budget and Cost. Make sure that you have enough budget to cover the cost of the renovation.
- How long would the renovation take? If you know the scope, you would know how long will the renovation take.
I guess it’s all about planning for the project. If you planned it well, it will definitely be a success!

Vintage Houses: Revamped and Redecorated
I have always loved colonial houses! There is something about them that just spells warm and cozy and leaves the imprint that the house is really all about family.
I also notice how colonial houses have simple layout house plans and it just works! I guess simplicity is really outstanding – and that somehow, we all need to learn how to go back to the basics.
Look at this colonial house which has been redone in accordance to the new owners’ wishes. It retained all its qualities, only shinier and suited to accommodate modern technology (like the microwave!). My favorite are the big windows – one does not need ATV Lights!

Brighten Up Any Room with Yellow!

I have always loved the yellow hue in everything. In fact, whenever I test out an online printing service, I always send in a card with different yellow hues to make sure they get the shades correct.
And the color yellow can have amazing effects in rooms too! Look at how it has transformed every type of room above. I am totally in love with the yellow accent wall for the hallway. And dining with yellow walls just makes me happy already!
Different Types of Shades for Your Home
The windows of a house are very functional. They let light inside your house and provides ventilation. Aside from these, windows could also serve as decoration for your walls. Curtains have long been used to accentuate windows but these are not the only things you can use. Shades or blinds are also very popular as window coverings. Below are some of the different types of shades you can use.
- Roller Shades. As the name suggests, this particular type of shade can be rolled up when not in use. It is made up of one whole sheet of vinyl fabric so they are good for completely blocking out the light.
- Pleated Shades. These shades are often made of polyester fabric that is scrunched up in an accordion style design.
- Roman Shades. These are shades that are flat when lowered and fold up when raised.
- Venetian Blinds. A common type of shades made of horizontal slats, one above the other, and suspended by strips of cloth or by cords.
Options for a Wall Finish
The walls of a house are its biggest décor. Do not think that you need to hang a lot of things to make it decorative. There are many options for a wall finish that you can use in your home. Below are some of the most popular ones.
- Paint. This is the most common wall finish because it is very versatile. However, it could be plain looking especially if you use just a single color. Try incorporating different colors to add variety.
- Wallpaper. This is the option of choice for those who do not like the common paint. The key to using wallpaper is in the design. Choose one that is versatile and would go well with the overall design of the house.
- Tiles. This is not a very popular choice when it comes to wall finish. Tiles are more often used in the bathroom and the kitchen. But choosing a good design could make them appropriate for other parts of the house as well.
- Mural. This is a great choice for bedrooms, especially kids’ bedrooms. The key though is having good artistic and painting skills or you could hire an artist to do the mural for you.
Advantages of Using Flagstone
If you’re looking for materials to use for paving a patio or a driveway, you might want to consider flagstone. Here are 4 reasons why.
Visually appealing
The natural rustic look of flagstone makes the material a classic and elegant choice for pavement material for a patio or driveway.
Tough and durable
Flagstone is a naturally tough material. It can withstand rain and retain its traction even after being soaked for a long time. This makes it a good candidate for walkway materials.
Requires little or no maintenance at all
If used and constructed properly, flagstone will be able to hold its structure for a long time. It does not need any intensive cleaning or fixing. Hosing it down or sweeping it quickly is enough.
Versatility
There are various designs and sizes of flagstone to choose from. And since no two slabs are identical, you will basically have unique driveways or patios if you use the material as your main components.
Advantages of Using Laminate Flooring
In place of marble, ceramic tiles, vinyl, and hardwood, people are now using laminate flooring. Here are five reasons why.
Affordability
Compared to other materials like marble and hardwood, laminate flooring is more affordable. The material itself and the cost of having it installed is much cheaper.
Customizability
There are several designs of laminate flooring to choose from. You can have the look of any kind of wood with half the price of the real hardwood.
Easy installation
Laminate flooring is very easy to install. You can even install the flooring yourself.
Sturdy
Because laminate floors are made of several layers of pressed and bonded materials, they are extremely tough. In fact, most laminate planks come with a 10-year to lifetime guarantee.
Easy to clean
Since laminate flooring is not absorbent, it does not stain easily. Simple mopping even with just a damp cloth is enough to remove all kinds of stains.
