As a rule, patio furniture must be made of stronger and durable material since they are most exposed to extreme conditions of temperature – heat, rain, cold, snow. It can be costly to replace patio furniture, so it would be wiser to invest on patio furniture covers. Like Golf cart covers and Rv covers, they protect what you want to last long.

. It preserves your furniture from spills and stains.
. It safeguards your furniture from extreme changes in weather.
. It can be attractive enough to be used everday.

There are different types of covers to choose from. Before buying, we need to make sure we choose the right cover for our outdoor patio furniture. There are several things to be considered like the following:

1. Material – Decide whether it needs to be hard or soft, made of grade vinyl, waterproof and UV treated, thick or thin.
2. Secure Strap System – We need to make sure the covers stay in place.
3. The covers come with warranty.
4. The type of weather your patio furniture will more often be exposed to. If you’re in a rainy part of the country, you’ll want to get covers that are of thick plastic or waterproof canvas. It if gets humid in the off-season, consider patio furniture covers that can breathe a bit so that your furniture doesn’t become moldy.

Hot Tub Maintenance

Owning a hot tub, or what is commonly known as a Jacuzzi, at home is a dream for many people. What would I give to have a mini-spa at home! I originally thought that maintaining a hot tub is expensive and can be very overwhelming but I found out it is truly quite simple.

The most basic thing you need to have, aside from spa chemicals, is a cover for your hot tub, especially if it is located outdoors. There are a lot of hot tub covers to choose from. They need not be expensive, as discount spa covers are made of quality material and are durable too.

Wiping the acrylic shell of your tub with a damp cloth periodically will help you keep your tub as nice as the day you bought it.

There are some basic spa chemicals you need to add to the water to kill standing bacteria and germs. These are chlorine, bromine, baquanine or other mineral based purifiers. Chlorine is one of the most common and widely known water sanitizers; you can find chlorine tablets and granules created specifically for spa use available at spa retailers. When the water care basics are followed, proper water chemistry can be maintained in just a few minutes a week.

Maintenance of a hot tub doesn’t need a lot of hard work, just consistent care. When taken cared of properly, hot tubs can last for a long time.

Having a pet can bring so much joy to a family no matter what kind of animal it is. However, having a large dog often means having larger mess as well. Having a pet and a clean house at the same time is not impossible! Below are some tips to help you keep your house clean if you have a dog or any kind of pet.

Use a microfiber mop. Dogs and cats are prone to shedding so using a microfiber mop will help a lot. These mops will easily pick up the animal hairs quickly. You could also buy pet clothes so that the fur does not get scattered around the house.
Get animal shoes. Putting on shoes on your pet will help prevent floor stains and scruff marks.
Designate your pet’s area. Even if your pet is inside the house, designating an area for your pet will contain any mess made by your pet. Put dog toys in your pet’s corner to keep your pet entertained.
Clean immediately. Do not delay cleaning up any mess. The longer you wait, the harder it is to clean. Also, your house will be cleaner most of the time if you remove any mess immediately.

How to Maintain Your Washer

Laundry Room

Wouldn’t it be nice if your laundry room looked as nice as this? You would have to get a few shelves up with casters to make them strong but otherwise organization is the key.

Here are some tips from Apartment Therapy:
Washing Machine

* Inside: A cup of white vinegar run through the warm cycle will break up mineral deposits and clean out any dirt caught in the drain or mechanism. Add vinegar to the wash when using a laundromat if you’re concerned about what went in before your load. The vinegar will also serve to neutralize any lingering odors (including pungent leftover fabric softener)

* Outside: A machine that is used a lot can end up accumulating grime in the corners and rim of the loading area. Use a sponge or rag with a solution of 50/50 water and vinegar to clean it out. Remember to wipe down the outside of the washer periodically and use the vacuum to suck the dustbunnies out from underneath the machine.

* Level It: This great post on extending the life of your washer and dryer points out the importance of leveling your washing machine so that as it spins, it isn’t causing undue wear to itself, the floor, or the wall near it.

* Front Loaders: Some people have had issues with their front loading machines beginning to smell of mold or mildew . Apparently it isn’t totally uncommon for an accumulation of detergents and water to create the smell. Try the vinegar trick, leaving the door open in between washes, and if that doesn’t help, try some smelly washer.

Spring Cleaning

Posted by admin On February - 25 - 2011 0 Comment

Now that we are looking forward to warmer season in the next few weeks, most of us will be doing some major spring cleaning.  The breath of fresh air will be the time of allergies for some people so the more reason we need to do some major cleaning in our household. It is time to finally open the windows, shake out the rugs and do some deep cleaning.

Before you face the big task ahead of you and get overwhelmed, you might stop before even accomplishing anything. Here are some tips to make sure you follow through with your mission:

1.     Before anything else, make a list of all the things you want to accomplish, be it a minor task or a major repair for your house. It is better to see everything in print. That way you can decide which ones need to take first priority over the others. It might be decluttering the attic or having fresh paint for your bedroom or organizing your closets.

2.     When you create your checklist, do not list down the things that only come to your mind. Get up and inspect each room of the house and make the list from there.

3.     Once you have your checklist ready, it is advisable to have it visible at a place where most family members can see it. Make it a family affair. Delegate your children, if you have any, to do some cleaning of their own. Now would be a good time for them to go through their things and decide which ones need to be thrown, sold or given away to charity.

4.     When you handle big cleaning tasks, you need to make sure that you have the correct equipment to handle it. You do not have to buy it, you can do some research on the effective natural cleaning solutions. Vinegar and lemon are great and effective cleaners.

5.     A great tip when starting cleaning is to start at the top. Clear of cobwebs, work on the upper rooms first and then go downwards and outwards. If your husband is helping with the cleaning, he can tackle the outdoors and garage while you work on the house.

6.     Check appliances and send those off who need repairs. It would also be a great time to assess if there are appliances that need to be replaced.Do not forget the pipes and drains in your kitchen and bathrooms! To freshen the drain, pour 1/2 cup baking soda, and then 1/2 cup vinegar down the drain. Wait 5 minutes, and then rinse with hot water.

7.     Take advantage of the good weather – air your mattresses and pillows!

8.     If you have blinds for your windows, you can also take them out and wash them if they have become grimy. You can soak them for a while with water and cleaning solution and let them out to dry under the sun.

9.     Clean your cupboard and pantry area. Check the expiration dates on your goods.

10. Organize your cables. This is so true for families who have so many gadgets. Get cable ties and have a designated place for chargers and cables.

Spring cleaning is not only a good thing to do for your family’s physical health but will also be an avenue for your family to bond and have some quality time together.

Sooner or later, you might even take it up as a habit.
