The use of metal or iron in doors, gates, railings, and fences, has long been practiced by a lot of people. Iron is an excellent material for these structures because it is highly durable and at the same time can be easily molded even into intricate designs.

Summer is winding down and it’s one of the last days one can fully enjoy the sun at its finest. One great way to enjoy summer is to have canopy beds in your backyard and laze around all day – get a tan, sleep, read a book, lounge while you let the kids play, cuddle with your special someone, etc. You can even use one of those outdoor fireplace kits at night so you can go camping, roast marshmallows and have a cozier atmosphere. I have chosen a few canopy beds that I liked featured from Freshome.com. Tell me what you like!

Horse Fencing

Posted by admin On August - 10 - 2011 0 Comment

Do you own a barn? Do you plan to buy one? Do you love horses? Do you have a place to let them roam without getting lost? (Isn’t a barn just lovely? You get the nature feeling, clean air and it just feels good inside not worrying about anything urban.

It’s rare to have horses and owning several is bliss. Training them inside the horse fence is but normal and needed by the horse. Your fence should be durable, though, not merely just any bars of wood that rots when rain continually gets it wet. It’s got to be long term. That way your horse will not easily run through it and escape, nor would any intruder break into the horse fence.

Although it is nice to see horses merely trotting or jogging around an open space without any constraint, horse fencing gives you the peace of mind that your horse is just within its area. You do not have to worry that it has gone astray to find another horse of the opposite sex. Although it would be nice for breeding, it is still better that you see them in your jurisdiction, right?
Don’t settle for less. Go for the long term, durable set.

Playgrounds

My daughter has been asking for a playground of her own at home since she cannot bring her school playground home. She loves to play there after classes. All we have is a slide that is way too small for her already – we do not even have space for a playground to be honest. Maybe when we get our own home we can finally have one.

Do you want to grow your own vegetables and herbs? No matter what climate you may live in, you can still have a harvest from your own backyard. Greenhouses have a more controlled environment that will help plants grow. So the key is to have your very own greenhouse! If you want one, there is no need to buy it or pay someone to build you one. Below are your options if you want to make your own Greenhouse.

Kits
There are a lot of Greenhouse Kits that you can buy in gardening stores. These kits are very easy to assemble and you can have your greenhouse standing in just a matter of minutes.

Build your own from scratch
It can be quite easy to build your own greenhouse as long as you have the tools and materials. You can download one of the many greenhouse plans available online or you can sketch your own. The materials can be very basic and simple like wood or PVC pipes for the frame and sturdy plastic or PVC sheets for the walls and roofs. If you do not want to use a hammer and nails, you can use PVC pipes and PVC fittings instead then you can use a staple gun for attaching the walls.

Different Types of Fire Pits

Fire pits can be used all year long – to provide warmth during the colder months and it can serve as a cooking area for an outdoor barbecue party during the warmer months. Getting a fire pit would be a worthwhile investment. There are different types of fire pits and you can choose what you prefer best based on your needs.

The designs vary mostly in terms of portability, the fuel being used like electricity, gas and most of all wood. Another factor is whether it is permanent or temporary.

There are pre-made kinds, assembled and in-ground. Among the three, the in-ground type of fire pit is the most permanent and would best suit those who would be frequently using it.

1. Copper. This would be the best material because of its extremely high melting point; however, it can be pricey.
2. Cast Iron. This is a popular choice because of its affordability. However, you would need to replace it from time to time.
3. Chiminea. These are enclosed fire pits which have a tall chimney on top, perfect for small spaces because it is tall and narrow. This is most used in condo units and apartments that have an outdoor patio.
4. Gas-Powered. A gas fire pit requires less clean up than a wood burning pit. A propane fire pit would require you to have a tank or natural gas connection.

An Atelier Garden Office

What makes an Atelier garden office different?

Their garden office studio is differently made to connect its owner to the environment that is different from a log cabin or a summer house.

Their garden office studio offers wall windows to enhance as much natural light to enter without giving the occupants away. They maintain privacy by offering as high level glazing to its structures.

Their defining design principle is the curve. An Atelier garden office studio has curves which is both sleek and functional at the same time. As you can see from the pictures below, Atelier garden offices are attractive in any angle.

Their garden office is the great fusion of modularity and customization. You can have both if you have yours built through Atelier.

An Atelier garden office is made of naturally sustainable materials making them eco-friendly contemporary buildings. And yet it can house the most state-of-the art equipment you need to make working in it as comfortable as possible – under floor heating, running water, electricity generating solar panels and broadband.

Why should you consider investing on a garden office?

Working from home can be challenging. It is hard to stay focused when you hear the constant noise of television or get called a lot by your children. Striking a balance between work and play when all you have for an environment is a home is hard. This is why having an office at your home, apart yet still a part of home will give you and your children lines and boundaries. It gives you the schedule you need and makes you feel like you are working – privacy and focus will be easier to achieve. It will also give your kids the signal that you would need to work and they should not disturb you. Yet it is close enough for you to go home , rest and check up on the family if needed.

And you do not have to just confine it as being an office. It can be as versatile as you want it to be. It gives you extra living space. From gyms to art rooms, playrooms to excellent guest accommodation, this multipurpose space is adaptable and flexible over time.

They even add immense value to your property. Yet they are more cost-effective than an home extension because it can be built without having to reconstruct or renovate any part of the main house.

Having your own swimming pool is considered a luxury here. Still, it does not prevent me from dreaming of a house with a pool especially since my kids loves to swim. I am sure they will be like fishes to the water with all the swimming they will do if we do have our own swimming pool.

One thing I do not look forward to though is maintaining the swimming pool. I could barely keep up with maintaining the house right now, what more if there is a swimming pool to maintain as well? Nevertheless, everything takes just a little bit of practice and just in case we do get our dream house with a swimming pool, below are important ways to maintain one.

· Filter. This is very important in keeping your swimming pool clean. Make sure to regularly replace your swimming pool filter cartridges and to place the appropriate chlorine product in the distribution container near the pump and filter system. A pool filter cartridge may become dirty early and sometimes just cleaning it instead of replacing it will be adequate. If your pool has a small Jacuzzi, you might also need spa filters.

· Algae Inhibitor. You would not want to swim in a pool that is starting to grow algae. Since replacing the water in your swimming pool is wasteful and expensive, you can just use an algae inhibitor. This product is poured into the water and then you wait for the pump system to circulate the water so that it gets distributed to other areas of the pool.

· Test It. It is advisable to have your swimming pool waters tested regularly. You only have to bring of samples of your swimming pool water to a water testing facility. For swimming pools where kids regularly swim, I consider this a must!

Missing Home and Its Palm Trees

Posted by admin On May - 10 - 2011 0 Comment

How nice it would be to go back home for vacation next month. My daughter will have her school break then so we have about three weeks off from school and we could go back home if we want to. I just keep thinking of how fun it would be to take my daughters to visit our relatives and just get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I could use a break and some fresh air myself. I can imagine the lovely ‘palm trees we will see on our way to their house and gives me a relaxing feeling. Yes I love living in the city, I love the convenience of being near everything and of course I love going to the mall to shop and eat out but from time to time it’s nice to get away. It’s nice to unwind and just be somewhere quiet and peaceful, it would mean no internet connection and very little TV time but it’s a welcome change of pace and we all need sometimes. It would mean seeing Pomegranate trees and eating freshly picked fruits for an after snacks instead of processed food which is better for the kids. They will also have lots of time to play outdoors and just enjoy being kids, I know at this day and age kids do not get as much time playing outside anymore as they have computer games at home. My daughter might not see a single cherry tree at her grandma’s backyard but she sure will have lots of space to play ball and learn to ride the bike. I’m certain she will have a great time playing with her cousins. Nothing beats going home, that’s for sure! It’s a good thing that where I live right now has an abundance of trees. We never run out of shades to run to when it’s raining or it’s too sunny. It also helps keep the air fresh even if we live in the heart of the city.

Buying Tents for the Family

Posted by admin On April - 27 - 2011 0 Comment

Lat week, my kids wanted to try “camping” outdoors right in the comfort of our backyard and asked me if we can buy a tent. At that time I thought it wasn’t a good idea, not to mention I thought tents were expensive!

big agnes tents

I was wrong. Big Agnes tents are durable, made of quality materials and are priced competitively. It can really be a good investment. The downside of this is that I wasn’t able to give my kids the chance to enjoy camping and sleeping on a tent!

big agnes tent

So I did my research and I found out the following recommended sizing on tents:
4 people- 64 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 8 feet.
6 people- 96 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 12 feet.
8 people- 128 sq. ft. or 8 feet by 16 feet.

I also just need a three-season tent, which can stand a bit of snowfall and rain but can be breezy enough for spring and summer!
